My name is Mark and I am a graphic designer and photographer by trade, but one of my favorite hobbies is getting out into my shop and building or fixing things. I decided to start this channel because I have often gone online looking for ways to build something, only to come up empty and deciding to figure it out on my own. I am hoping that through my trial and error I can provide others with ideas or inspiration to create their own custom projects.
I am a very busy person and I like it that way. You’ll never find me just sitting around. If I’m not tinkering on things around my house then I am probably out doing something that I find exciting somewhere in the wilds of Wyoming.

Making Money with a Laser || Trophies & Tumblers
Too many technicalities for such a simple design and end result is not that stready.
I just about finished up mine for my son who shoots barebow recurve using your video as a guide. All I need is more stuffing
Well bummer, apparently businesses get paid to recycle that palette wrap now so they won't give it to me.
If you had one more clamp i would have given it a thimbs up😂😂
Love the drawer runner jig you made for the kickplate drawers! Great idea!
It looks very simple to make the bed , so how many employees do I need to recruit and how much is the investment money. I think it will last maybe for 30 yrs minimum so then I have all tools prepared again
I don't understand your question. Use the tools you have. This shows you how the bed goes together, it's up to you to figure out how to do it with what you've got.
@@GunflintDesigns Thanks for the perspective this opens up for further questions and some of them without a proper solution due that I need to figure it out myself. I guess it could be more of a concept bed than for the use of making it, as I have never seen this type of attachment ever to hold it together.
I use "clear" GE Silicone Supreme caulk to hide very thin gaps in dark colored wood (unstained sapele with semigloss polyurethane finish). For some reason, this has worked on projects of mine. I cannot explain why. Try it with a test piece having deliberately-made very thin gaps. Let me know what you think.
Your excellent cinematography with shallow depth of field actually taught me something. Seeing the featherboards fingers flexing showed me that I don't have mine quite low enough. Thanks for the video! I am in the middle of making my first raised panel door at the moment.
Great video
Love the slow-mo circle drawing!
Thank you!
Here before someone brings up the shorts and chainsaw combination. Osha would be proud lol
That thing doesn't count as a chainsaw!
@@GunflintDesigns 😂
Mark, based on the wind direction you explained, your ridge cap is backward. But it's not the end of the world. I was still learning when I was your age. Now I'm old enough to just tell others how to do it. Great video
You know what, I thought about that for quite a while! In fact, I started about 3 pieces coming from the other way, but I ultimately pulled those and went this direction because this is the way the old cap was. I figured most of the time the shop would be blocking it from the main wind, and this way is better when the nasty weather comes from the southeast.
Hi Mark with the scrap wood from the mantle you could have made something cool with resin
Cool idea!
Great video can’t wait to see the bowls that your uncle make from the fireplace mantle what a great idea and gift.
Thank you!
What size is your Kreg workbench for cnc?
I think he has the same one I do and if so it's the 44x64
@@byromscustomwoodworks do you find it’s big enough for a workbench
@@webcrawler3332 I think so. My main workbench/ outfeed table is 48x72 and I rarely use the whole table
@@byromscustomwoodworks cool thanks!
I agree with all of this.
"Stop trying to put your tongue in my hand!" Such is the life of owning a dog.
lol, right!?
Awesome stuff, Mark! 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! You too!
That’s cool that your family will all get to have a piece of family history in repurposing that mantle!
Seemed like a pretty good use to me!
What is a router?????
I’ve come back to this video a few times over the years. Thanks for this!
You have to sift the sawdust to obtain the finest possible dust. Few people talk about this, but it makes the best results. Also, Titebond Original is better than II or III because it dries hard and sands easiest, while the others can gum up and get messy.
I recently saw a great tip for cutting dowel plugs - put tape on the plugs that will come loose, then after you bandsaw them off the plugs don’t have to be chased down as they are stuck to the tape. Beautiful table. Job well done.
How would layers of compressed carboard do for filler and how compressed do you think they'd have to be? I'm thinking about all the Amazon boxes we get that could be used this way.
Beautiful table...
Great video. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Table is beautiful. Nice work!
Thank you!
You either love the sound of your own voice or don’t realize how much blabber on! LESS YACKING AND MORE WORKING!!! Jesus you’re annoying
Nice job on that big boy! A small tip to elevate your project is grain selection. As pretty as the grains, they're not ideal for legs, you usually want straight long grains. In some of the legs you can see a ring on the end grain, you are probably better off split them into two quarter sawn pieces and glue them back together, much strong and less prone to seasonal movement.
Absolutely beautiful table Mark, it looks amazing in your house. Great work good to see you doing a woodworking video again.
Thank you very much!
What was the battle with the biscuit joiner that was easier with the dowels?
Mostly the tool is old and worn out, so it makes a sloppy hole. That doesn't help precision much.
Looked like a great video, unfortunately I threw up 8-mins in from motion sickness!! (Ok not really Lol) but seriously, I was stoked to see this project, had to bail early bc of the constant jerking visuals from the camera being moved so fast and so much. You’re clearly a great woodworker, truly…..no disrespect intended sir.
Thanks for the feedback and for being diplomatic about it. I've been trying a few new things with the channel lately and they style seems to have people pretty divided.
Excellent video, straight to the point and logical approach to these problems, will now have to tackle the drive belts and wheel rubbers on mine.
It's a Great looking table
Thank you!
Im still jealous of your access to so much walnut, but that there is a gorgeous table
Thank you!
You may have noticed I mentioned "real-time" glue ups - well they were each maybe 20-minutes long, so for the scope of this video it made more sense to speed them up. Who among you would find it beneficial if I published those videos in full? I pretty much talk to the camera the entire time and explain why I'm doing things the way I am doing them.
You should have addressed the issue of the end grain orientation during your glue up, One up, the next end grain down and so on.
Seems like you covered it for me. Thank you!
Beautiful table
Thank you!
Show us in real time at warp speed. 😂😂😂
Those glue ups would have added about 20 minutes each to the video to watch in real time. Would that be beneficial to publish?
Watching this is like riding a wild weasel. Couldn't do it without adverse vestibular reaction
I don't understand that series of words.
Loved your comment. You must be an ENT physician. Ha!😂
Excellent table Mark, well done. BTW, the camera work makes me motion sick...
Then sit down because the camera work was perfect
Beautiful table! What part of Wyoming did you live? I just moved here a few years ago
I lived in Powell and worked in Cody. Up in the northwest corner of the state. I miss it so much.
@GunflintDesigns that's super cool! I'm in Wheatland, but my wife grew up in Worland. I'm hoping to do some more traveling sometime soon to see more of the state
@@derekcoplen2124 Oh cool! I did a few long range shooting competitions down in that part of the state.
@GunflintDesigns a friend of mine is getting big into those long range shoots as well
Gorgeous table Mark, and great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Really beautiful work, Mark! It looks wonderful! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! Will do!
Adding the chamfer to the dowel hole is a nice trick!
Glad you got something useful out of this!
Have you ever thought of doing a French Drain (Ι think that’s what is called) a buried perforated PVC drain pipe to drain the water away from the house.
That came out so nice. Glad it worked out for you to get the bigger one.
Thanks!
The microphone has a much better sound quality that I heard @ the beginning of this video.
Glad to hear it!
Dunno if you did this or not, but there's a really easy way with the Jessem jig to align your dowels for a panel glueup with no need to mark across each board and use the crosshairs (I have the original jig but it works the same). That notch is there so that you can first drill your set of holes down the edge of one board. Space them however you like. Then clamp the two boards together with the reference face out. Place a dowel in each hole of the first board (the original juig comes with a pin for this purpose, not sure about the new one but a dowel you are going to use anyway works fine) and slip the jig slot over the pin/dowel, referencing the 90 degree face against the reference face of the second board and drill. The holes will be perfect and no crosshair aligning necessary. ua-cam.com/video/A3tE61O0zzk/v-deo.htmlsi=zSZuIvWvVhX6S4U3&t=145
I didn't do it that way because my brain is stuck in the old ways, but that is a fantastic feature of that tool for sure!
@@GunflintDesigns I was the same, then I did it the "right" way and will never go back. TBH, better accuracy than a Domino. No need for a "looser" fit to make up for the lax engineering of the Domino. LOL.
Beautiful table Mark! And I like the WBAT “Not a freeloader” shirt! Haha
Haha, thanks man!
