      I don't understand your question. Use the tools you have. This shows you how the bed goes together, it's up to you to figure out how to do it with what you've got.

      @@GunflintDesigns Thanks for the perspective this opens up for further questions and some of them without a proper solution due that I need to figure it out myself. I guess it could be more of a concept bed than for the use of making it, as I have never seen this type of attachment ever to hold it together.

    I use "clear" GE Silicone Supreme caulk to hide very thin gaps in dark colored wood (unstained sapele with semigloss polyurethane finish). For some reason, this has worked on projects of mine. I cannot explain why. Try it with a test piece having deliberately-made very thin gaps. Let me know what you think.

    Mark, based on the wind direction you explained, your ridge cap is backward. But it's not the end of the world. I was still learning when I was your age. Now I'm old enough to just tell others how to do it. Great video

    • @GunflintDesigns
      @GunflintDesigns 3 дні тому

      You know what, I thought about that for quite a while! In fact, I started about 3 pieces coming from the other way, but I ultimately pulled those and went this direction because this is the way the old cap was. I figured most of the time the shop would be blocking it from the main wind, and this way is better when the nasty weather comes from the southeast.

    You have to sift the sawdust to obtain the finest possible dust. Few people talk about this, but it makes the best results. Also, Titebond Original is better than II or III because it dries hard and sands easiest, while the others can gum up and get messy.

    Nice job on that big boy! A small tip to elevate your project is grain selection. As pretty as the grains, they're not ideal for legs, you usually want straight long grains. In some of the legs you can see a ring on the end grain, you are probably better off split them into two quarter sawn pieces and glue them back together, much strong and less prone to seasonal movement.

    You may have noticed I mentioned "real-time" glue ups - well they were each maybe 20-minutes long, so for the scope of this video it made more sense to speed them up. Who among you would find it beneficial if I published those videos in full? I pretty much talk to the camera the entire time and explain why I'm doing things the way I am doing them.

    Dunno if you did this or not, but there's a really easy way with the Jessem jig to align your dowels for a panel glueup with no need to mark across each board and use the crosshairs (I have the original jig but it works the same). That notch is there so that you can first drill your set of holes down the edge of one board. Space them however you like. Then clamp the two boards together with the reference face out. Place a dowel in each hole of the first board (the original juig comes with a pin for this purpose, not sure about the new one but a dowel you are going to use anyway works fine) and slip the jig slot over the pin/dowel, referencing the 90 degree face against the reference face of the second board and drill. The holes will be perfect and no crosshair aligning necessary. ua-cam.com/video/A3tE61O0zzk/v-deo.htmlsi=zSZuIvWvVhX6S4U3&t=145
